I help capable business owners make complicated things clearer.

Jono Heath Business Coaching

Most of my work involves sitting alongside an owner or leadership team when something in the business needs to be thought through properly.

It might be a commercial decision, a leadership issue, a team problem or a conversation that has been put off for too long.

My role is usually to help you see the situation clearly, work out what matters and decide what to do next.

A little background

Much of my professional background has been spent working alongside owners of service businesses, particularly in allied health and private practice.

I was one of the founding directors of The Hive in 2013, working closely with practice owners across Australia, New Zealand and the UK until 2026.

During that time, I coached and advised business owners, facilitated leadership groups, and presented workshops and business education to thousands of practice owners.

That work gave me a close view of how the challenges inside a business change as it grows.

Early on, the focus is often on getting enough clients, building a team and making the numbers work.

Later, the questions tend to become more about leadership, structure, performance and the owner’s own role.

That experience still shapes how I work today.

I tend to look at leadership and people issues alongside the commercial reality of the business rather than treating them as separate things.

What am I like to work with?

There are a few things you will probably notice fairly quickly if we work together.

Direct and practical

I like thinking things through, but eventually we need to decide what to do.

What needs to change? Who’s responsible? What can wait?

Most business owners already have plenty of ideas. Often the harder part is deciding which ones deserve attention now and being clear about what happens next.

Calm when things get uncomfortable

If a conversation gets tense, I don’t feel the need to rush in and make everyone feel better.

Sometimes the useful thing is to slow it down, work out what's actually going on and say clearly what needs to be said.

I often help owners prepare for conversations they know they need to have but have been putting off.

I don't need you to agree with me

I’ll tell you what I think, but I’m not particularly interested in defending my first opinion.

If you see something differently, we work through it.

The point is to arrive at a useful view of the situation and make a sound decision, not for you to agree with me.

The business needs to work for you too

Profit matters, but so does the role you have created for yourself.

I think it is reasonable to ask whether the business is giving you the income and working life you expected from it.

A business can be successful on paper and still ask too much of the person who owns it.

Outside work

I live in Brisbane with my wife, Rebecca. We've been together since the mid-90s, which somehow feels both a long time and not very long at all.

Our daughters, Sophia and Imogen, are grown up now and beginning their own adult lives.

Most weeks, you will find me doing the fairly simple things that keep me healthy and sane.
I have completed more than 450 parkruns, and I enjoy local gym classes, a regular surf and coffee with mates, paddleboarding when conditions cooperate, and bushwalking with the family.

If something in your business needs another perspective, we can start with a short conversation.

Tell me what is happening and what you are trying to work through.

A short conversation is usually enough to see whether I might be useful.
